Home Port

After traveling thousands of miles from coast to coast Habanero is docked at her home port of San Diego in Kona Kai Marina a few slips from Persistence.

Ensenada Delivery

Habanero waited in Florida for the Yacht Path transport ship to arrive.  The vessel was craned onto the deck and secured in place with stands for the long journey to Ensenada.  Mike found live Panama Canal webcams online and watched the entire day the transport ship was scheduled to pass through the canal.  A few hours later than expected he caught the first glimpse of the transport ship entering the canal.  As the ship moved closer to the camera he could clearly see the vessels on deck and identified Habanero.  February 9, 2009 Habanero arrived in Ensenada and we were present to see it off loaded.

Connecticut to Carolinas

December 26 Mike set sail aboard Habanero from Norfolk, Connecticut. He is accompanied by a captain familiar with the eastern seaboard and the captain's wife. They followed inland waterways from Connecticut to New York Harbor where they passed the Statue of Liberty to enter the open ocean. The first night they anchored in Virginia. From Virginia to the Carolinas they travelled the Intercoastal Waterway (ICW).

Introducing Habanero

Habanero is a 1987 55' Hatteras convertible sportfisher. We bought her in December of 2008 and are in the process of bringing her from her homeport of Norwalk, Connecticut to Florida where she will be loaded on a freighter and shipped to Ensenada, Mexico after the first of the year with a final home port of San Diego, California. Habanero saw a complete restoration including topsides, engine overhauls, custom mahogany interior, all headliner, fabrics, wall coverings replaced throughout. The galley has granite countertops and Subzero drawer refrigerator plus a stainless steel galley. She has a pulled together look like no other Hatteras. In 2006 she received a gleaming white on white paint job. Habanero is fully equipped for tournament action with pipe welders full tower, underwater lights and cameras, tuna fighting chair, Eskimo ice maker to keep the catch fresh. There is a mid ship master suite with queen size bed and private head. To port is a bunkroom with ensuite head and two bunks in the V area with a private head. The salon sole is entirely Mahogancy strip plank. The salon features matching Mahogany paneling, window trim, and settee base. It comes equipped with a 31" Sony flat plasma television, KVH Satellite Tracvision (television) and a Nera satellite phone.
